every artisan, every craftsperson, every designer. a corporation’s intents give them venue and livelihood.

then the changing world or the wavering business directions remove all purpose and validity. all your hard work sits and waits to molder, as nature and environment slowly creep back in and reclaim what was once a forest, a stream, a meadow.

and it will be again. in time.

watching a video about an abandoned conference/retreat center (what caught my eye is that it was built by my former employer) it got me thinking about my fascination with urban exploration and abandoned buildings.

i studied architecture. what really resonates is the intention, the effort, the vision. things we build for hopeful purpose. when it passes, the buildings fallow. dreams decay.

maybe i left architecture school because i wouldn’t be able to cope with that.

i’m in a situation where … although i have “limitless” time on my hands, i feel like i cannot give attention or care to anything other than what immediately concerns me. my life, my family, my household.

neighbors are asking me for help and i cannot bring myself to accept responsibility for their success and wellness and livelihood.

puttering around today. cleaning up the wheels i took off of the Focus, and decided while i have a bucket of suds, to give the Ranger its annual bath.

a photo of a set of car wheels in the grass, with a blue Ford Focus in the driveway beyond them. a photo of a red 2003 Ford Ranger Edge extended cab, recently washed.

@mathowie aha, this explains the planing. i was wondering what you were building that you started with structural/dimensional lumber.

i know that some places around me offer “5/4" stock to use for things like tabletops, not sure if that would meet the needs for a project like this (then you'd need a feed-thru sander in addition to your planer, oh no, more fun tools :)

i'm not sure what companies are trying to gain by listing jobs as 'remote' even though they have an in-office _requirement_

i also will not listen to you complain about the volume of applications you are receiving.

this week, two milestones silently passed:

1. this is the end of my 4th week out from IBM, and essentially the end of the separation compensation i was offered after 9.5 years there.

2. this week also marks the 30th anniversary of starting my first job making websites professionally.

i have ... feelings about both of these things. i'm trying to remain positive and work on productive things and laying the groundwork for future successes.

@threetonesun we keep trying these 'spicy' varieties because one of the kids likes spicy things. i try them and they all seem to have some sort of irritant chemical sprinkled onto them to add the 'spicy' effect.
