@akahn very nice! i did this a couple years back. i was on assignment in NYC and the office there had amazing chairs so i found one locally at a used office furniture dealer and picked it up on my way home. still love it (in my case, i have a Herman Miller Mirra 2)

so today, i acted on some jealousy i had of the dimensions that @marcamos added to his reading page ( marcamos.com/reading/ ) and i added “Series” and the ability to log Ratings on my own reading list reading.mikesusz.com/ in the future. (marc still has photos and layout and stuff, which will always keep me jealous)

when examining my internal and external prospects for employment, i arrive at a question: who (or … what?) is responsible for producing the user experience in apps and websites anymore?

i predict that, as a user, things are going to get far, far worse. quickly.

@jerzone (on my mechanical boards) i remap caps lock to right ctrl. so then most of the time it’s just ctrl, but in games i can use it separately from left ctrl.

@annika yeah this was Grady's point - for Durable software, you either don't use AI, or you use it for very specific tasks and you verify the output. (his entire argument is that you still need knowledge of computer science to produce good software, LLMs are just a new abstraction layer to creating it)

@mathowie this is something Grady Booch described as the difference between software that is “disposable” versus software that (needs to be) “durable” AI excels at disposable software - single purpose, limited user, reliability is not paramount.

Happy ‘Big Wind’ Day!

on April 12th, 1934, the weather observatory on top of Mount Washington recorded a wind gust of 231mph.

a google search will turn up a lot of various articles, here’s a few — a quick read from the mount washington staff a few years back:

i say this for funnies but i really did explain IP addresses, domain names, and ports to them. the easiest metaphor is a building. a building has an address, a name, and several floors.

this building is at 390 park avenue (ip address)
it's called "lever house" (domain name)
there's a restaurant on the 3rd floor (port 3)
there are offices on floors 4-12 (ports 4-12)

or maybe i just make them watch Hackers again.

@marcamos i asked a tax expert. ;)

1. if you’re involved in a corporation or entity that has to file also, the deadline for that entity is usually march 15th, so therefore any documents resulting from that filing won’t be available earlier.
2. certain retirement investment vehicles allow contributions for the prior tax year up to the filing deadline, so natually any tax documents resulting from those contributions would not be available until some time after the filing deadline.

in case you were wondering how a pine needle thwarted my weather station, i found a fun gif explaining how this type of gauge works. the test for tomorrow (expecting rain) is whether i removed all of the pine needle or if there’s still a piece of it in there blocking the tipping-bucket from moving. 🤞

big change for my project: Obsidian MCP is now:

🎉 Markdown Vault MCP 🎉

same great functionality, but more accurately reflects that you can use it with: Obsidian vaults, Hugo / Jekyll / Astro sites, Bear, Typora, iA Writer, or Any folder of .md files.

This release also marks a simplication for permissions - no more .json config to specify how files can be accessed by the agent - each note is configurable in frontmatter.
