today was a day of ups and downs. i’m trying to stay positive - always positive. but it’s rough.

in the end, i did some productive things, i cooked a nice dinner. my kids are happy (wherever the heck they are in the house, i’m assuming).

the absence of a gig feels like lost opportunity to help people. i guess it would be okay to “create shareholder value” while also “creating mike bank account value” but above it all, i miss making things that help people.

this is how my big dog sleeps on the couch sometimes.

@marcoarment @jimmynotjim every pair of jeans or shorts i wear has three bags folded neatly in the back pocket. usually i remember to transfer them to the next pair before i put them in the wash.

@m750 nah i think the seller mislabeled it as being compatible with my year/model. it looks like it’s from a ford taurus/lincoln navigator.

i may have gotten my dishwasher to run again by literally punching parts of it until my knuckles were bleeding. i didn’t read that in any “manual”

sad to report that the root cause in troubleshooting my son's PC crashing is bad video memory. he's been using my previous system, with an ASUS ROG Strix 3080ti that i bought during covid for ... let's just say a lot of money. a lot.

smoke alarms start going off. i’m in the basement. i kinda know how they work this time. i run around to find the one that doesn't have the green light on (that's the one that triggered). i get upstairs to the 2nd floor and find the one that tripped. i go get a step stool, when i come back i see a small spider crawl out of it. beeping stops.

our spider detectors are working 100%.

the replacement gasket i ordered for my sunroof looks nothing like the one currently on the sunroof. now im on the hunt for whatever this is.

@marcoarment my first app just got approved. i’m really excited. i got an email that it would take 24-48 hours to review when i submitted it. i ended up contacting them to ask if i screwed something up? it took … 353 hours.

just replaced the drip pan, burners, and igniters. the little “hats” over the burners still have some life in them so i’ll continue using the old ones until they fall apart.

getting an iOS app reviewed for the first time and their ‘24-48’ hour estimate isn't very accurate. i wonder if they're getting a large volume of new apps. but i’m at 168 hours and counting.

tonight we got 1.57” of rain in less than 30 minutes. i checked my car and the entire (bare metal) interior is wet. after i cleaned out the sunroof drains.

the carpet is bone dry! because it’s in the garage. lol.

today i did indeed apply to jobs and write a blog post and thank people at a company for talking to me even though im not moving forward in their hiring process. i’ve never felt more productive and yet not earning any money.

i’m very tired and sore. it’s like i’ve been pulling and pushing on ratchets at weird angles all day.

i think tomorrow is back to job searching / app development / blog writing for 24hrs.

also ibuprofen.

i've gotten 5 emails from linkedin telling me to connect to the same person (who i don't know). two of them within 4 minutes of each other.

this is a feature that is obviously worthwhile and pleasing to your users.

@jerzone ah good point. if i see something obvious i'll address it. every bolt will probably go back in with anti-seize. although i don't plan to remove any of them again.

update: i've confirmed the passenger side sunroof drain was completely clogged. using some weed-whacker line, i got it flowing somewhat, but there's still something restricting it.

also, the line will only go in about 3 feet, i think there's a hard bend in the drain hose somewhere. what a terrible design that would be.

@jerzone so... this is a 2013 ford focus with a DPS6 transmission, 160,000 miles, wet timing belt, rotting out quarter panels, and broken A/C.

so i'm not so much in the "improving it" phase as i am in the "keep it moving until something catastrophic happens" phase.

pulling the carpet means if i get another 20,000 miles out of it, at least they won't be a stinky 20k.

doing the right thing isn’t always the easy thing.

so automotive carpet is a finicky thing. it has a waterproof backing that is compromised in various places. so you’re left trying to remove water from above and below.

the best solution, much to my own chagrin, is to remove the remaining seats and the center console and pull the entire carpet out. sigh.

after shop vac’ing as much as i could, the car is now sealed up with a dehumidifier running full blast inside.

@jerzone i knew i had a small leak in the sunroof but it looks like leaves were blocking my cowl drains, and with the downpours we got (7" of rain the past week) it flooded up the cowl and into the intakes for cabin air. there were inches of water on the floor (all windows closed)

well, this is gonna suck.

today was random chores, transfer station, grocery shopping quick hit, mowing the entire dog yard, shower, nap, grill pizza for dinner. energy level: 0.

my grill continues to fall apart slowly, and I’m at the point where I need to decide whether I’m replacing the grease tray, the drip pan, and all of the burners and igniters, or replace it with a propane pizza oven from craigslist.
