i spent this weekend bending clear acrylic tubing for my first custom-loop water cooled PC. i think it turned out pretty well.

today was a fairly big milestone for me, and i have thoughts. just not sure where to post them. my tech blog is not the appropriate place. perhaps i should revive my main blog that hasn’t been updated in earnest for a decade. do i still remember my wordpress login?

@revmem i just ran the AC because it was 75 with 60% RH in the house. too swampy.

@jerzone i’ve dreamt of a more holistic solution to moving heat around. like in the summer my AC just dumps heat to the atmosphere while i still burn oil to heat my water. it could be put to better use … heating DHW, heating a hot tub, i dunno. of course any of this requires major investment and disruption to implement.

@m750 ah well, the well was the key. we get sediment sucked up by the well pump sometimes. the mixing valve on the boiler (that regulates the temperature of hot water by mixing in fresh cold water) was clogged with detritus. i had to open it up all the way (to take full hot from the boiler) and flush it out.

@m750 no valves were touched but you’re on the right track. another hint, we have well water.

@m750 no water heater. DHW comes directly from the boiler. no electrical problems. boiler still produces hot water for baseboards. we had hot water last night.

looks like i have a ton of work to do.

this morning i fixed our “we have no hot water” problem, and now i’m making it a guessing game for my old-dads slack group.

just learned that the large cable co. who bought out the small business cable co. in my town, is now stringing fiber. i’ve been on fiber (gigabit, symmetrical) from my telco for more than a year. soon i will have two fiber options?

so amazing to me, as for a long time the best i could do was two bonded DSL lines to get 14 megabits downstream.

finally got tired of wi-fi/cellular interference with my little mixer. (choosing one with a metal case would have prevented this)

but i had some copper shielding tape and this morning i put some inside the case. it seems to work well - i can literally hold my phone directly over the mixer and there is no noise.

i discovered a difficult to diagnose problem with my truck today and an easy to diagnose but difficult to resolve problem with my car today.

i almost look forward to being angry at javascript tomorrow.
