this is an enormous city and it’s filled with so many people and if you witness them you see them experiencing joy and sadness and wonder and confusion. if you pay attention, you will see the spectrum of human experience and emotion.

and dogs sometimes. lots of different dogs.

my client engagement is wrapping up so this is my last work trip to NYC for a while. i celebrated it by doing something a bit different.

in every trip (including this one) i’ve stayed in or on the fringes of Midtown. the outliers being near the UN, or in the top fringe of Chelsea (where i am tonight - flower district. hello!) in the evenings i would go out and walk, to the rivers and back, to central park and back. the high line.

but tonight i took the subway to Battery Park and walked back.

@jayroh also sometimes if there’s nothing outward that you have to worry about, there’s something inward that you really have to worry about.

@jimmynotjim @irafcummings i have read that freezing stock in an ice cube tray and then dumping the cubes into a bag means you have portioned amounts of stock to throw in when you’re cooking and also try not to confuse them and put them in your cocktails

don’t judge a woodworker by the number of clamps they have. instead, judge them by whether they think they have enough clamps.

(the correct answer is no: you can never have enough clamps)

@rrriley glad it helped! if i did it over again i would have gone with a mixer that had a metal chassis. the wi-fi of the ipad makes for a bit of interference if they’re too close. but otherwise it’s been awesome.

to anyone making techno music: if your track has any of the following, please reconsider:
- phone beeping noises
- talking. not singing, just talking
- alarm noises
- siren noises
- anything that sounds like a cat being sick in the next room

thank you.

@marcamos hmm not sure, i got ours at our local hardware store, the big box ones didn’t have any. the important part is getting the right size; they make them with different spacing of wire to collect smaller things (e.g. acorns) and larger things (e.g. chestnuts)

a lot of the media i’ve been watching lately is based on books i’ve read, and the series/movie has taken such liberties that i don’t think it’s important to have read the source material at all really.

it has the cast of characters, the setting, the overall arc of the plot, but otherwise it’s wild in between. i’m trying to focus on enjoying it and not what deviates from the written version because … how does that promote enjoyment?

is there a psychological term for the condition where when you read anything you've ever written, no matter how recent or afar, you reflexively cringe and want to destroy it? even knowing, when you read what you replaced it with, you will reflexively cringe and want to destroy it…
