@mathowie this is something Grady Booch described as the difference between software that is “disposable” versus software that (needs to be) “durable” AI excels at disposable software - single purpose, limited user, reliability is not paramount.
@BasicAppleGuy interesting! way back in the day, they would have different branding for education. i was a campus rep, and i got marketing stuff like this (circa 1996?)
i say this for funnies but i really did explain IP addresses, domain names, and ports to them. the easiest metaphor is a building. a building has an address, a name, and several floors.
this building is at 390 park avenue (ip address) it's called "lever house" (domain name) there's a restaurant on the 3rd floor (port 3) there are offices on floors 4-12 (ports 4-12)
gave my kids the url to a service i have running in Docker on the server in the basement. they started asking “why does this domain not have a .com" and "what does :8000 mean" so...
1. if you’re involved in a corporation or entity that has to file also, the deadline for that entity is usually march 15th, so therefore any documents resulting from that filing won’t be available earlier. 2. certain retirement investment vehicles allow contributions for the prior tax year up to the filing deadline, so natually any tax documents resulting from those contributions would not be available until some time after the filing deadline.
in case you were wondering how a pine needle thwarted my weather station, i found a fun gif explaining how this type of gauge works. the test for tomorrow (expecting rain) is whether i removed all of the pine needle or if there’s still a piece of it in there blocking the tipping-bucket from moving. 🤞
same great functionality, but more accurately reflects that you can use it with: Obsidian vaults, Hugo / Jekyll / Astro sites, Bear, Typora, iA Writer, or Any folder of .md files.
This release also marks a simplication for permissions - no more .json config to specify how files can be accessed by the agent - each note is configurable in frontmatter.
typical saturday: ✅ sleep a bit later ✅ trip to the transfer station ✅ frenzy of activity on projects/chores ✅ nap on couch with dogs ✅ sensibile dinner ✅ beer
@jerzone this station is all-in-one (ambient weather ws2902) my last station had all separate components and i got frustrated maintaining separate solar panels and batteries and whatnot.
i ascend the ladder, contemplating how much effort it will take to disassemble and repair my weather station’s rain guage, possibly needing to wait for parts to arrive.
i lower the mast, clamp it in place to work on the station.
i see a long-leaf pine needle stuck in the rain gauge funnel, and remove it.
@mescutia it is, but my kids go to school online, and i didn't get in touch with the local district early enough to get him in for testing there. lesson for the younger kid!
and a sneak peek at my future roadmap: i'll be rebranding this to be agnostic to the editor you use, because really it just points to a directory of markdown files.
if you keep the ingredients stocked in your pantry, making chex mix is pretty quick. i’ve got the prep time down to around 20 minutes. here’s the recipe i use (only sub- i use pretzel-shaped pretzels)
@jerzone i’m cool with a screen and a chamber where it can build up until it’s emptied or something. i might research something like that (or put it off again until i need to fix the faucet next year)
