@annika i usually spend my first half hour looking for an RJ45 for my travel router and then i take a nap. sometimes the tvs let you HDMI into them so that’s nice.

@m750 i'm intrigued by new cards but when i built my current machine, i knew that any upgrade would involve a LOT of overhead (custom-loop watercooled) so ... yeah i'm gonna enjoy this one for a while. :) lol

@jerzone i've been intrigued by these systems for a while. ideally i'd like to replace my direct-fired boiler DHW with a dual-coil indirect DHW tank, one coil being fed by the boiler and another by a heat pump (basically want to turn my AC waste heat into hot water in the summer).

@jerzone not a plumber but those look like union fittings to me. so the nut should turn (seal made between flat mating surfaces) but you also seem to have much bi-metal corrosion maybe.

i'm trying to get better with checking in here, but honestly without a client that remembers where you left off (why does the native client not do that?) it's tough to get traction. looks like tapbots is working on it, though!

@atpfm when @siracusa was talking about many people in one place with mobile devices i instantly thought about PAX! my kids and i make an offline plan to meet up at specific places and times because we can never count on any data going through (or our batteries lasting long while attempting to send/receive with that congestion)

@revmem a long time ago i had a roommate who was an electrical engineering major, i asked him what the difference was and he said "A is for telco, B is for data" so i never really questioned it since. but i doubt the throughput would be affected much anymore.

@film_girl seems like Apple is readying themselves to pay a tariff? if the tariff goes through and applies to them, Apple might say “we’re not raising the price!” look like heroes. and if it doesn’t go through or they are (get themselves) excluded from it, Apple gets to pocket the extra cash.

@jerzone yeah not sure how that happened unless i tweaked the power plug sideways and something touched that shouldn’t have. was bound to happen sooner or later. i’ve got a new display screen coming that will also report over wifi, so i won’t need a wired module anymore. and i’ll have a 2nd display to put in another location, so that’s cool.

@jerzone Ambient Weather WS-2902, and i report to wunderground using an Ambient Weather ObserverIP. i think the station saves the 'high' numbers it observes from the previous 30 seconds and sends those when it polls, so i end up reporting the highest numbers it recorded, versus just whatever was happening exactly when it polled.

i spent 2024 being thrown at challenged projects, over & over, trying to fix critical bugs and shove them across the line. didn’t take any vacation and ended up stacking all my time off in december.

i come back to work in january with a dismal utilization percentage (i’m punished for taking vacation) and thrown right back onto projects spiraling out of control.

i’m not a “hustler” & i don’t have youthful energy to give for free to my employer to compensate for their lack of ability to plan.
