last day of 4 days off. i haven’t had 4 days off in a row since last christmas. looking forward to all my vaca time in december, and vowing (once again) to use it more throughout the year in 2025.
my thanksgiving trip with the boys fell through and we’re home and joined in my wife’s plan to get cook-at-home thanksgiving dinner from the local bbq smokehouse and my goodness we’re eating smoked turkey all weekend and taking naps (okay i’m the only one napping because they’re not smart enough)
in the past two days we’ve gotten 1.5 inches of rain, and that’s most of what has fallen in november. and nearly half of what fell in october. it’s been astonishingly dry here. glad the pattern is changing.
the biggest lesson i’ve learned from the latest project i was parachuted into (when it was already on fire), is to call b.s. on project scope and timelines. _Especially_ when the people who wrote the proposal completely ignored the estimates provided by devs.
my septic tank pumping company sends me an email suggesting i need to get the septic tank pumped out before upcoming holiday parties and i wonder how much food they think i’m serving to my guests
one of my toughest adjustments to “checking in” on bluesky is the tooling. with (other networks and 3rd party apps that spoil me) i can open the app on mac/iphone/ipad and it scrolls to my last-viewed item in timeline. with the bluesky app i have to scroll and remember what i’ve already seen or not
so i’ve talked about it some on Masto, since i was last active on twitter, i’ve moved into Consulting at IBM. while i am able to build a lot more stuff now and use new technology (versus my previous role in Software, managing and extending an established product) i do miss deeply caring about things
while going back to that other site to opt out of training their AI, i spin through my following list and searched for friends who may have come over here. hi! 👋
carrie and i stopped watching Ted Lasso a while back, i think we knew it was going to end and we didn’t want it to end. watched one this morning. 4 episodes left.
i just finished reading The Three Body Problem (just the first book) and my brain hurts i’m gonna have to palate cleanse with something lighter before i tackle the second book.
@jayroh planning a career. seeing where you are, where that leads to, making crucial strategic decisions to get there. including, probably most important - saying no to things that don’t move you forward/upward.
recently discovered that in the Health app, my Apple devices are recording data and inferring things about my mobility fitness. i wish there was a “Dog Walk” workout option that would omit data for that particular activity.
walk. stop. walk. stop. get pulled sideways. walk. stop. bend over. walk. stop. spin around to untangle the leash. run a little. stumble. stop.
@marcamos i'd really love something like a site with a chronological timeline so you can choose where you like checked-out on new stuff and see everything added since then
so we set our clocks back an hour and now at 5pm it feels like we should have eaten dinner three hours ago and three hours from now it will feel like midnight
@threetonesun will do. i'm also working on porting my wordpress blog to Astro because (well... _gestures broadly_ and) my shared hosting is charging me more because my WP theme is broken with latest PHP version. bleh. just want to be done with all that.
@threetonesun the screenshots tell a bit more of the story, it seems familiar to other site hosting platforms i've used. i figure for (nothing dollars/month) i could give it a go and see if i can make it work. https://coolify.io/docs/screenshots
does anyone i know run Coolify? thoughts/experiences? thinking of spinning up another Linode and migrate my sites over to it (from netlify, and shared hosting)
