local Boston area twitter friends: might be a longshot, but i'm looking to purchase another pass for PAX East for Saturday. i will pick it up and pay cash. thanks!
tonight i got to nerd out on twitter and y’all seem to be okay with that. thanks @ThePracticalDev :) as an “old” i sometimes feel disconnected. we can find common ground and have fun building things :)
@matthewgiesa WASD’s version has DIP switches underneath that you can switch to adjust the ctrl/cmd key layout, but most boards, if you connect them to a Mac, can go to System Prefs -> Keyboard -> Modifier Keys and set what key is sent for which key position
does it violate Twitter’s ToS if clients can have a ‘hide tweet’ button? like, i don’t want to report it, i just don’t want to see it until (my feed updates)
@crtr0 one thing i was bummed about - i wanted to include Ralph the robot but i’m totally out of @thoughtbot stickers. maybe my friend @jyurek could help? :)
the fact that they've solved this problem with less industry experience than I have is irrelevant. they chose to focus on this problem, and came up with an excellent solution. AND they shared it. that's all that matters.
whenever I reach these situations now, I search for help from the community. almost always, someone has documented a fix for the problem or something similar to lead me to success. and probably half the time, that person is younger than I am.
a lot of times I see someone as (old) as I am complain about something, and you see them justify their frustration with "well I've been making websites since (stone age)! this is difficult!"
(not long ego enough) I gave up the notion that, since I've been doing this job for so long, new things presented to me should be self-evident. user and designer requirements have elevated, and we must keep learning to meet them.
update: child one playing minecraft until they almost had an accident, gets up to run to the bathroom. child 2 rushes to computer, messes with child 1’s build. child 1 emerges, freaks out. fighting. tantrums. mom unplugs computer. passwords are changed. ~fin~
i know there are lots of people with bigger problems today, but i’m trying to understand why the plow driver did this. that’s 38” deep snow they left in front of my driveway, BACKED UP and drove around the pile.
