this much snow requires switching the dogs to the egregiously large dog toys outside, lest they be buried and lost until spring/thaw.

a photo of a dog toy comprised of a large red ball with a piece of rope through it, next to my size 9.5 boot. the ball is about the size of a volleyball.

i guess what really gets me about this is, i live on a cul-de-sac. if the plow driver went clockwise instead of counter-clockwise around the circle, they would have great visibility on the left edge of their plow (vs. mailboxes, etc.) and they would be pushing the snow in towards the center of the circle - where nobody lives. maybe there's a compelling reason they don't do it this way, but i wish they would.

more snow fun. the intake on my blower is 26” wide and 23.5” high. the pile left by the plow in front of my driveway was roughly six feet wide and 2-3 feet high.

a photo of my snowblower cutting through the pile left by the plow. a photo of my snowblower in front of the pile left by the plow.

i can say that being in Consulting and not having an active project has been far, far more stressful than most of the projects i’ve been assigned to.

and it's a different stress - it's not problem solving, it's not a time crunch. it's just supercharged anxiety.

i don't like it. i want to get back to building things that help people.

@jessamyn congrats! i used to have a problem every january because the battery would die in the ranger (parked out in the cold) so it would lose its oxygen sensor/emissions control data, so i would fail inspection then have to drive at least 100 miles and come back in to get it checked again.

but now ... we have no state inspections in NH? wheee, i guess

fediverse tip: your mastodon instance probably has an 'about' webpage somewhere, which may contain information about how you can provide monetary support to the staff who maintains it. if you have the means, this would probably be very appreciated (servers cost money, time costs more)

last night i compelled my kids to watch Scott Pilgrim vs the World. tonight my wife wanted them to watch Forrest Gump. i’m happy to say that they paid attention to both.

cracked a rib yesterday while laying on the floor to repair some water damage under our sliding door. finished that up, spent today working on demo’ing the vinyl floor and underlayment in our kitchen. very sore.
sometimes i wonder why i keep doing stuff like this, then i consider how much a contractor would charge me, and … i keep doing it.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

this time of year, i contemplate “resolutions.” i timeshare between the camps that support and deride them. i think the most valid criticism is the mulligan factor built into trying something so absolute - “i’m going to do X every single day!” … “oopsie, missed a day. better luck next year.”

idea: treat building a new habit like a job. you can take vacation days and sick days from a job. but in general, you do it most of the time.

just try to do it most of the time.

my son’s drum area got a huge upgrade. furring strips and acoustic tiles (flame resistant felt with strips of MDF) covering the bare studs on this wall in the basement (much preferred to finishing drywall)

@jayroh have i mentioned how long its taking me at work, going back and forth to get a $300 Figma dev mode license? in hourly wages alone, me and (the department i’m arguing with) have already burned through multiple licenses worth of money. it boggles me.
