to anyone making techno music: if your track has any of the following, please reconsider: - phone beeping noises - talking. not singing, just talking - alarm noises - siren noises - anything that sounds like a cat being sick in the next room
@marcamos@irafcummings@arstechnica i built their wordpress-based publishing system for Announcements, one of my last big projects as a freelancer. RIP.
@marcamos hmm not sure, i got ours at our local hardware store, the big box ones didn’t have any. the important part is getting the right size; they make them with different spacing of wire to collect smaller things (e.g. acorns) and larger things (e.g. chestnuts)
@marcamos last season we used one of these to pull about 8 5-gallon pails full of acorns out of our yard. (then we cut down the oak tree that was dropping them)
@threetonesun i don’t get why i would want my Facebook people on my Twitter. i don’t want to explain to my elderly relatives what React is or why i’m mad at HTML email.
a lot of the media i’ve been watching lately is based on books i’ve read, and the series/movie has taken such liberties that i don’t think it’s important to have read the source material at all really.
it has the cast of characters, the setting, the overall arc of the plot, but otherwise it’s wild in between. i’m trying to focus on enjoying it and not what deviates from the written version because … how does that promote enjoyment?
@annika ahh i did deal with that for my VPS at linode. of course, i should have done 2 to 3 dist upgrades over the years … probably would have sorted out the sources problem
is there a psychological term for the condition where when you read anything you've ever written, no matter how recent or afar, you reflexively cringe and want to destroy it? even knowing, when you read what you replaced it with, you will reflexively cringe and want to destroy it…
Random: I made a 'Uses' page and it's fairly typical. I will be updating it as I think of new things to add and/or find all my typos. https://mikesusz.dev/uses/
like seriously. here are screenshots of the separate desktops (don’t be creepy). And one of the Settings for Display where you can _arrange_ the displays!
Apple is … finally letting the iPad be a Real Computer?
boy howdy. iPadOS 17 beta. as i type this, i’m using an M1 iPad Pro attached to a 35” widescreen monitor at it’s native aspect ratio, via a twelvesouth dock. i’ve got a mechanical keyboard and bluetooth mouse paired. i have two apps in split-screen on the internal iPad display. i have two apps side by side in Stage Manager on the 35” display.
this feels like a “real computer.” like, i’ve been using this for a while and i kinda forgot this is an iPad and not my Mac desktop.
i pay an egregious amount for online streaming and on demand services, and yet every time — every time we want to watch a movie, it’s never available on any of them and we have to buy or rent it.
i should cancel all of this crap and we pay for what we watch, only.
@marcamos@eric we sometimes wake our teenager up for school by grabbing his phone and start playing (like some old country song or something) on spotify and run out of the room with it. he leaps out of bed shouting “my algorithm!”
reddit ceo says they haven’t seen financial impact yet, so i went and canceled my Premium renewal. this won’t be realized until my sub would have renewed, but it’s something. then i logged out again.
maybe if more of us did this?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
or are subscriptions just a drop in the bucket compared to selling (our) data to advertisers?
@jeffbyrnes oh yeah this isn’t on my desktop. i’m trying to add an airplay streaming target to my DNS server in the basement so we can stream to speakers in basement and garage. so i’ve got shairport-sync running in a docker container but i need to configure the system ALSA to actually interface with the audio hardware.
that thing where I come back to my computer and sit down and realize from the tabs I have open and the terminal window that I was troubleshooting sound on linux and i want to go away again
wondered why my kids seemed to have unfettered access to their iphones this weekend so i checked the Screen Time and each kids individual App Limits are … gone. gone. like i never set them in the first place.
