this project was a shelf for the window behind our kitchen sink. i think it turned out well. just a 1x4 and a 1x2, biscuit-jointed together, primed and painted. held in place by two pieces of aluminum angle that are set in flush to the ends of the shelf.
@sarajw also super fun - Above & Beyond did a warm-up set before one of their shows from a boat… this would have been fun to see : ) https://youtu.be/IrzO9GqS8BY
final trick-or-treater tally: 4 doorbells, 3 carloads that went around the cul-de-sac and skipped our house. i guess our hill isn’t worth a handful of candy.
@hbuchel “i cut our website load time by two-thirds.” “wow, that’s amazing! how did you do it?” “i removed the two extra copies of jquery we were loading.”
@threetonesun but Joe think of the serendipitous conversations and the hallway interactions. Being able to read someone’s body language. If these exchanges don’t take place face-to-face, I don’t know how the young shoppers will learn.
@stephaniewalter what about a triathlon? several distinct phases, each one requires a distinct aptitude, but overall performance will depend on success in all
today was a fairly big milestone for me, and i have thoughts. just not sure where to post them. my tech blog is not the appropriate place. perhaps i should revive my main blog that hasn’t been updated in earnest for a decade. do i still remember my wordpress login?
@jerzone i’ve dreamt of a more holistic solution to moving heat around. like in the summer my AC just dumps heat to the atmosphere while i still burn oil to heat my water. it could be put to better use … heating DHW, heating a hot tub, i dunno. of course any of this requires major investment and disruption to implement.
TIL: if you have a “bunch of stuff” to sell on ebay and you’ve been putting it off becuase you have a “bunch of stuff” to sell on ebay, it’s possible to just list one thing. today. just do it.
@marcamos if i go one town north of here (Jaffrey NH) i have 4 bars of LTE but can’t do anything online. period. like not a byte will get through. it’s like verizon has cell towers that aren’t connected to the internet. i guess i could … make a call
macOS Sonoma off to a great start! initial screen prompting you to choose Sonoma wallpaper or your previous wallpaper, doesn't respond to Tab keyboard controls to confirm the dialog.
@m750 ah well, the well was the key. we get sediment sucked up by the well pump sometimes. the mixing valve on the boiler (that regulates the temperature of hot water by mixing in fresh cold water) was clogged with detritus. i had to open it up all the way (to take full hot from the boiler) and flush it out.
@m750 no water heater. DHW comes directly from the boiler. no electrical problems. boiler still produces hot water for baseboards. we had hot water last night.
just learned that the large cable co. who bought out the small business cable co. in my town, is now stringing fiber. i’ve been on fiber (gigabit, symmetrical) from my telco for more than a year. soon i will have two fiber options?
so amazing to me, as for a long time the best i could do was two bonded DSL lines to get 14 megabits downstream.
