@jerzone looks like yours is a flat burr grinder, and i’m wondering if i made the wrong choice (or another ‘upgrade’ is in my future) i recently moved to a baratza virtuoso+ conical, and while baratza sells repair parts (big reason i switched to this one) it still becomes less and less effective as the burr dulls.

looking at your pictures, i could take my tiny chainsaw tooth sharpening file to the edges of those burr teeth and make it last a zillion years :)

we have an ETR. looks like we’ll have been out of grid power for about 26 hours. edit: yeah nope. reassessing repairs, brush fire from transformer, we’re still out.

people are comparing this storm to the Ice Storm in 2008. this is nowhere near as bad. that storm the temp dropped to 6, we heard trees breaking in the woods constantly, and the next day it never got above 20 and cloudy. conditions aren’t great but way better this time around.

snow turned to freezing rain and ice accumulation. 2,151 households in my town without power. (71%). i’d rather have just snow like they’re getting up north.

we need copilot themes. i want one that responds to ‘Dixie’ (as in, Dixie Flatline) complete with all the snark and creepy laughter.

(this is a Neuromancer reference. if you haven’t read it yet … what are you waiting for? :) )

this is Bexar County Courthouse. my particular photo is insignificant.

in 2017, IBM hired me & flew me to Texas. i flew in early, rented a car, drove to San Antonio before my training a few days later in Austin.

i did the river walk. ate dinner. saw the alamo. and completely forgot where i parked my rental car. panic. didn’t know the plate #. could barely describe this car.

then, remembered i took this photo right after parking. Apple Photos saved the geo. i tapped on a map and found it.

trying to see the status of Fortnite by looking at the Fortnite Status account on X except the elon timeline isn’t showing me newest first. in fact i’m scrolling through a list of irrelevant garbage from 1-4 years ago.

Sleep while the puppy is sleeping.

Clean while the puppy is cleaning.

Work while the puppy is working.

Chew the edges of the carpet while the puppy is chewing the edges of the carpet.

Dig holes in the yard while the puppy is digging holes in the yard.

Chase the cat while the puppy is chasing the cat.

if your first thought is “ooh we could make a Slack channel for this!” maybe wait around for the second thought to arrive.

technology is pretty awesome.

i wanted to look up some specs for my pickup truck. i knew i had a photo of the sticker inside the door. i:
- searched Photos on my phone for 'Ford' and found it
- copied the text of the VIN out of the image
- pasted it into my reference note in Obsidian
- got back to my PC where it had synced, used a website to decode the VIN
- found some specs in metric
- copied them into VS Code, asked copilot to convert them to imperial units & format them in a markdown table

spent some time organizing the new (warm!) shop. installed a tonneau cover on the pickup. met our new puppy. it’s been quite a day.

in reply to a conversation

@m750 i feel this every time i hear the news, like we lost someone from our team who couldn’t escape from the force pulling down on them, pulling down on all of us.

and i think how different a world could be if we still had dolores & kurt & elliott & chris & jeff & tim & robin and so many others. we’d take it for granted—we wouldn’t know otherwise. but we’d still have a chance to let them know how they make us feel, and hope they could turn our love into strength to help them resist the pull.

it’s so cool that we can (mostly) put magnets in/on/near computers now. decades of built up baggage around this is slowly dissipating for me.

the script for your SSRI won’t auto-renew. you send a message through the app asking if you need an appointment.

“just call the office…”
