@jerzone they did that with mine and i cut off an old piece of conduit and put it inside the tube of the bird feeder. works the same, not enough room for squirrel to get in there

my oldest son, who just turned 15, read Neuromancer for the first time. i can’t imagine being exposed to this at that age.

i’ve read the book probably 8 or 9 times, but the first time i was in my late 20s.

i’m asking him to read Snow Crash next.

today was a weird mastodon day for me. @annika (who i met at javascript conferences in boston) replied to a thread with @andybaio (who i met at webvisions in portland in 2008) talking about a compilation album curated by @Cameo who is a dear friend i have not seen in far too many years.

i like mastodon. i love you all.

so Apple is using “AI” to have a device remove its own shadow from a photo/scan of a document. what a time to be alive, and witness these amazing technological achievements.

the dogs stomped on the cords sticking out the back of my subwoofer and broke one of the RCA plugs off (board mounted) but instead of dealing with all that glue and desoldering, i tacked wires to the pins on the back and installed a 1/8” jack for an input. not my neatest, but it works.

i probably would have shied away from a repair involving current, but this was just signal wiring so very low power.

wires soldered onto pins sticking through the back of a circuit board wires to a 1/8” audio jack the back of the speaker showing the broken RCA jack and the newly installed 1/8” jack speakers hooked up and working

@jerzone they’re great, and you can get a hybrid version (though hybrid can’t be AWD - hoping they update that in the future). would make a worthy replacement for my 2003 ranger if/when it ever decides to stop.

i looked at my phone and it said i was in “Sleep” focus mode and i got excited but then i realized it wasn’t even nine o’clock yet and is this either trying to tell me something, or fulfilling my wishes?

“AI can do everything! Machine Learning too! amazing!”

yet you can’t recognize that i want you to focus beyond the windowscreen.

@jerzone The Weather Company has flight planning tools that help pilots choose a route in three dimensions, modeling the weather for the path at the time of the flight. it’s pretty amazing to see.

youtuber uses a phrase my kids probably don’t know …
me: “i don’t want to explain that to you. but i also don’t want you to google it, either.”

trying to add my allergy medicine to Apple Health. i don’t want/need a reminder for this. it says “if you add a time…” but, i can’t proceed to add it _unless_ i add a time. sigh. do i blame development or QA?

so the promise of AI is wonderful but i’d be really happy if my software did this: a Contact has a birthday coming up. their address is hundreds of miles from mine. give me an alert about it a week ahead of time, instead of one day ahead.

no rocket science required.

I have joked that, depending on my current state, picking up an object that has fallen becomes a project management process:
first, let’s identify all possible outcomes – perhaps this thing is better on the floor?

as I get older, I find myself doing certain things more deliberately that I used to do without any forethought. Like picking things up.
