@kgf i work for IBM Consulting now, we do lots of different stuff. i never really minded React, components make a lot of sense to me. but yeah trying to computer-science it, it gets heavy.

@kgf i was put on a sveltekit project at work and i think i’m getting used to it. it makes sense to me and i can still write CSS/SCSS. still have a lot to figure out though probably.

i picked the wrong day to wear a Weather Company t-shirt. lol.

not sure what i had intended to accomplish today but i took the trash and recycling to the transfer station and then i picked up a truckload of construction material (2x4 studs, plywood) so i guess i have some new projects to work on.

we have reached friday. hard to believe that this week was only five hundred days long

i am trying to be kind and not throw my co-workers under the bus. they’re all good people and they’re all doing the best that they can.

but i’m the only one being asked when my Jira tickets will be done.

(as my friends tried to warn me over and over again) don’t even start development until they give you an example API call that works in Postman. NOT in Swagger - Swagger runs on the same machine! that’s not a test of an API’s availability. it has to run from Postman, or from local.

i wasted half a day (on a project with tight timelines) trying to troubleshoot a call to a new API that was being blocked somewhere in the request chain by a nginx rule. “but it works in Swagger!”

my challenge today is to see how many open Untitled documents i can have in my editor, full of json requests for APIs that might not even work no matter how i form the request.

weird day. this morning: ran out to get cat food, came home to goons delivering new couch. couldn’t figure out what to do with this afternoon so i listed a bunch of stuff on ebay. profit?

@joshmillard i tried this on my phone and i was cackling like a fool. thank you. :) then i closed the browser tab. then i switched back to mastodon and it was still playing? so i force-quit the browser. i force-quit mastodon client. i swiped away every app i’ve launched ever. it was still playing.

at this point, i’m laughing so hard i’m crying. my son is asking me what’s wrong. so i just turn up my phone volume and set it down and gesture to it.

@threetonesun you don’t know how difficult it is to upload and replace assets in Adobe Experience Manager. every time i see that, i shed a tear for the poor developer who graduated from college thinking they would change the world and now they have to argue with a nonsense piece of garbage software to just make it behave slightly like something normal.

i always joke that my weekends are so busy that i “need another weekend to recover” well. i worked my butt off for the last two days. and now i have two more days off!

so i could take it easy and relax and recover.

@m750 thanks! i’ve been trying to be more open about my depression and anxiety, and seeking treatment and how that’s going. i hope it helps others to seek treatments or solutions.

the toughest part for me is looking back on situations in the past where i was struggling and just thinking… if i had the tools and perspective that i posess today, how much better that might have went.

Sorry there is no great revelation or ‘this one simple tip’ but the lesson i’m trying to convey is - stop, do a sitrep (situation report), identify how you are feeling, consider why, make a change to adjust the climate if needed.

for a long time i wouldn’t take a step back, i would just try to ‘power through’ situations like these, be less effectual than i wanted, and later judge myself for lack of progress.

an anecdote about anxiety and dealing with the world.

yesterday i had a contractor coming over to give us a consultation/estimate. as typical in this situation, i am completely on edge.

the person was nice, the news was as expected, it all went pretty well. after they left i found myself utterly unable to concentrate.

i realized - i still had the adrenaline but now i didn’t have the fear. i was just buzzing.

i needed to reset. for me, that was sit on the couch with the dogs for a while.

what kind of exercises can i do to keep from hurting myself when i roll over in bed?

this project was a shelf for the window behind our kitchen sink. i think it turned out well. just a 1x4 and a 1x2, biscuit-jointed together, primed and painted. held in place by two pieces of aluminum angle that are set in flush to the ends of the shelf.
