my time being thrown at a deadline-challenged project at work is coming to a close. while i look forward to not waking up in a panic every day, i am not excited about being on the ‘bench’ again and watching my utilization percentage dwindle with each passing day.
i see some friends making their way here. things must be getting worse over in that other place, what with the chief executive idiot doing his idiot things.
i’m still more active on mastodon but i’ll try to check in here also.
this is my periodic reminder that if you rely on “Downtime” to regulate your children’s iOS devices, you need to go into Screen Time and verify the “Block at downtime” toggle is checked for them.
this seems to get unchecked for my kids regularly. i assure you that they do not know the Screen Time passcode.
@threetonesun yikes. and i recently got an email from the Advanced Custom Fields plugin that said matt tried “ to forcibly appropriate the Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) plugin and .org listing.”
@threetonesun i remember being a freelance WP developer and i can’t imagine how those folks are doing now, thousands of rugs being pulled out from under thousands of feet.
i love watching old music videos with my kids and i get to say “back when TV was a different shape!” and i’m sure they roll their eyes but i can’t see well enough to notice.
like i’m spending the morning declaring a strongly typed data structure for a component that will be resilient and re-usable and this is so afield of what i’ve been saddled with for weeks i’m reeling
today i begin building a new feature from the ground up*, and honestly y’all my brain is confused
(*versus inheriting a half-done, half-botched feature and told to just nudge it across the finish line which almost always takes more time and more work than building the whole thing properly myself)
@jerzone a few years back, my brother was working for a company prototyping turbines, in the style of a jet engine basically. we went to an installation during a wind storm to check the output, it was absolutely terrifying to be near that thing.
@jerzone i love vertical axis but the max speed is 1x wind speed, means you really have to optimize shape. plus side, can’t spin out of control like some ”traditional” horizontal turbines
your house should have a “battery box” where all the batteries live. alkalines and rechargeable batteries, and the charger (and yes ours is a mess of other junk too)
but super important - a screwdriver. that screwdriver lives in this box and is always put right back into the box.
@m750 as for the former, once i discovered that i have a backup of my website from before one of my co-workers was born. that was an interesting day for me.
@jerzone thank you for sharing all of this. my heart longs for the opportunity to just make myself insignificant in the face of nature and surroundings so amazing. someday. hopefully if i retire, i guess, i might be able to choose this.
@marcamos does it do the thing that the ‘movie’ type backgrounds do, where if you also set it as your screensaver, the screensaver animation will exit on wake and _be_ the background, slowing down and pausing the animation to become your desktop?
@jerzone@m750 this is one place my ford does well (or their partners) my 2013 focus has a 10 speaker sony system with separate woofers/tweeters in every door, a center channel on the dash and a subwoofer in the hatch.
@kgf it was a sweet time where i took credit for cutting our page load times by more than half! (by deleting several extra copies of jquery) (this actually happened at Washington Mutual :D )
