these tracks in my front yard are about 6' apart, it was a deer running! i can see their hoofprints at the edge of the driveway. no other tracks like they were being chased.

today while taking my son to school for band, i had to stop and chip the ice out of a wheelwell becuase i could hear it rubbing on the tire when i turned right.

currently feeling like i should register a domain name for the lulz “do-i-need-to-get-my-vehicle-inspected-in-new-hampshire-dot-com” and the content will be … “maybe?”

@beep i feel this. i just had the urge to add a Projects section. then i thought - Projects can have updates! so now i’ve got a Updates collection also.

@jerzone most of house is PEX A. it transitions to copper in annoying places. under my sink, the shutoff valves have failed completely so i’m replacing the stub of copper+valves with PEX->PEX. first time doing this myself though, so i’ll let you know if it’s a disaster. but PEX A seems pretty foolproof - if it’s physically connected, it’s sealed. joints just continue getting tighter over time.

the large, flat area of inside of my PEX A fitting tool’s case is being used to show step by step usage instructions, with pictures!

claude and i made a new fun app. my kids complained that free “tier list” websites are full of crap. this one is free & can run from an html file on your computer, or clone the repo and host it on github pages, or push it to your own domain (or use it on mine!). it has export (json), export (image), import (json) functionality. you can rename images & customize tiers!

@jerzone i know the feeling from my old machine. the one i have now has some kind of dynamo/generator (to support the headlight) so it also has hand warmers built into the grips. i'm spoiled!

this much snow requires switching the dogs to the egregiously large dog toys outside, lest they be buried and lost until spring/thaw.

i guess what really gets me about this is, i live on a cul-de-sac. if the plow driver went clockwise instead of counter-clockwise around the circle, they would have great visibility on the left edge of their plow (vs. mailboxes, etc.) and they would be pushing the snow in towards the center of the circle - where nobody lives. maybe there's a compelling reason they don't do it this way, but i wish they would.

@jerzone depends on the density. if it's heavier snow, what's above will flow over the top of the intake and pile up in/against the discharge chute. this stuff was lighter so i plunged through it mostly.

more snow fun. the intake on my blower is 26” wide and 23.5” high. the pile left by the plow in front of my driveway was roughly six feet wide and 2-3 feet high.

not sure how much snow we have so far, but every couple hours i’ve gone out to clear 3-4” off of the deck.

will spend some time tomorrow preparing for 8 to 172 inches of snow sunday/monday.

i really need to update/rewrite my resume, but making fun side projects is more fun. grr.

awakened by a computer beeping at 6am (for no reason?) and i can’t quite figure out what i should be doing at this hour.

i can say that being in Consulting and not having an active project has been far, far more stressful than most of the projects i’ve been assigned to.

and it's a different stress - it's not problem solving, it's not a time crunch. it's just supercharged anxiety.

i don't like it. i want to get back to building things that help people.

@jessamyn congrats! i used to have a problem every january because the battery would die in the ranger (parked out in the cold) so it would lose its oxygen sensor/emissions control data, so i would fail inspection then have to drive at least 100 miles and come back in to get it checked again.

but now ... we have no state inspections in NH? wheee, i guess

last night i compelled my kids to watch Scott Pilgrim vs the World. tonight my wife wanted them to watch Forrest Gump. i’m happy to say that they paid attention to both.

cracked a rib yesterday while laying on the floor to repair some water damage under our sliding door. finished that up, spent today working on demo’ing the vinyl floor and underlayment in our kitchen. very sore.
sometimes i wonder why i keep doing stuff like this, then i consider how much a contractor would charge me, and … i keep doing it.
